2026 Reintroduction

Intro

With the new year upon us, I thought it would be a good time to reintroduce myself. Quite a bit has changed since I did my first introduction post back in 2024—namely the fact that I’m a published author now—so I wanted to do another post that would take that into account. That, and I thought it could be handy for any people who are new to the blog and are wondering what exactly I do here.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

A Little Bit About Me and My Work

I’ve loved books for pretty much as long as I can remember, and that love has definitely only increased with time. My favorite genre is fantasy, but science fiction is a close second. Sci-fi was actually my favorite for most of my tween years, but that quickly changed when I started playing World of Warcraft and Dungeons and Dragons. Then I started reading more fantasy books, found several that I fell in love with, and that’s pretty much how we got here.

Like it does for many people, that love of reading eventually turned into an interest in writing my own stories. I wrote my first 16,000 word superhero book (I love Marvel movies too, by the way) when I was 11, and had finished my first sci-fi/superhero/fantasy trilogy by the time I was 13. I wrote my first full-length fantasy novel when I was 14 and, by the time I was 18, I’d written 3 100,000+ word novels. So, long story short, I’m really into this, and have been for a long time.

But it wasn’t until 2022 that I finally took the first step toward turning this whole writing thing into more than just a hobby. I took The Shadow Spawn—one of those 100,000+ word novels that I mentioned—and published it as a web serial. (Which you can still read on my Patreon, by the way.) And, just last year, I published The Sea Devil, the first book of Rise of the Oathsworn—my ongoing fantasy novelette series—and have since published 8 more books in the series. I’m working on book 10 at the moment, along with a novel project that I’m probably a long way from being ready to talk about. (But we’ll get there.)

As for what my work is about, I generally like to lean into a lot of the more classic fantasy themes, like heroism and friendship. While I definitely wouldn’t describe my books as “light-hearted”—I like writing the dark and dramatic stuff too—I do typically try to deliver an overall hopeful message. My protagonists are flawed heroes who often have to rise above their own inner demons in order to achieve their goals. They go on daring adventures, confront dangerous foes, and have many hijinks. So, we have good times.

I’d say that the age range for my books is pretty flexible, but I typically shoot for a slightly younger audience. Generally, I try to keep things appropriate for teens, even if the book I’m working on isn’t necessarily a young adult one; that’s how most of the fantasy books I like are, so I just do what they do. My books are pretty much always action and adventure, so they are violent, but I try to avoid making things too gross and graphic. There’s some mild language, but the worst words I’ve used to date are “hell” and the occasional “damn,” so that’s pretty tame too. As for romance, you can expect some limited physical intimacy (kissing and cuddling, mostly) and some suggestive and implied stuff, but nothing R-rated. So, overall pretty clean, which makes the books appropriate for a variety of age ranges.

So, if that all sounds interesting, you’re in the right place.

What I Do Here on the Blog

The blog serves multiple purposes. The biggest and most obvious one is just being a place for people to easily find me online, and a place for me to post announcements about what I’m publishing. But I also do monthly book recommendations and informational posts where I talk about how I write certain things.

Writing posts go up on the first Wednesday of every month. In them, I talk about bigger picture stuff like how I plan my books, and also get into smaller, more specific things, like how I write certain types of characters and dynamics. So, if you want writing tips or are just interested to see what my writing process is like, be sure to check them out.

Book recommendations come out on the third Wednesday of every month. The books I talk about here are overwhelmingly fantasy (I really love fantasy), with a few random sci-fi and superhero ones mixed in. Modern trends don’t hold any sway over the sorts of books that I feature here; I just talk about the books that I honestly love and think are worth discussing. (So you can rest assured that any enthusiasm that I express is very real!) The things that I like to read are pretty much the same as the things that I like to write: Expect a lot of heroic, action-packed adventures with a healthy dose of humor and drama. That’s the vast majority of what you’re going to get here.

Outro

Between the books and the blog, I’ve got lots in store for 2026. I hope you’re just as eager to see what the new year brings as I am. Thanks for reading, and be sure to check back later this month for the first book recommendation of the year!
