About Rise of the Oathsworn

Rise of the Oathsworn is a series of short fantasy stories that follow Xieraine Laedrin, a fey paladin who is supposedly destined to be the greatest knight of his generation, as he travels the dangerous land of Durnia on a variety of action-packed adventures in the name of his holy order, the Order of the Balanced Scales. During these adventures, he will come to learn more about himself and his abilities, and he will make friends and foes alike. His beliefs about basic concepts of good and evil will be challenged in ways he never could have imagined, and these challenges will lead him to discovering what sort of knight—and what sort of person—he wants to be.

The series blends classic heroic fantasy with modern themes. Each fast-paced book is a maximum of 20,000 words in length, making them perfect short reads.

What Readers Should Expect

Rise of the Oathsworn is a clean fantasy series, intended for readers in their late teens and early twenties who want to enjoy daring fantasy adventures without the excessively mature themes that are featured in many modern fantasy books. Rather than grimdark stories about ruthless anti-heroes, sex, and graphic violence, Rise of the Oathsworn features stories about heroism, coming of age, mental health, diversity, and striving to be the best version of yourself.

The series generally tries to maintain a PG-13 rating. It focuses a lot on action and fighting, so there is a considerable amount of violence, but gore and vivid descriptions of pain are kept to a minimum. Offensive language is also kept to a minimum, with the worst phrases used being “hell” and the occasional “damn.” There is some physical intimacy and suggestive themes, but no “on-screen” sex. Side characters occasionally indulge in alcohol.
