When the Order of the Balanced Scales receives word that people have gone missing in a long-abandoned mansion in the town of Dawnsdale, Xieraine Laedrin and Ruthana Karple are sent to investigate. The house is said to be haunted, and the townsfolk believe that ghosts were involved in the disappearance.
It isn’t long, though, before Xier and Ruthana realize that there’s more going on at the manor than ghosts kidnapping the living. The more they learn about the missing group, the more sure they become that the party wasn’t made up of ordinary folk. Rather, they were people with a specific agenda—and a malevolent one, at that. One that has something to do with the ghost of a young girl who died in the mansion over a century ago and refuses to leave the realm of the living.
As Xier and Ruthana work to unravel the mystery, they will also face a more personal challenge: their growing romantic feelings for each other, and what to do about them. With so much hanging over their heads, will they be able to pull through and complete their mission, or will they be the next to meet their ends in the home of the Restless Spirit?
